As you know, on April 19, 2008 I started my test of 30 Minute Backlinks. It has now been 10 days since this test began.
The stats now include a section for how much each site has earned. Yesterday one of these sites got its first commissions. This is the fastest I’ve made commissions for any Build A Niche Store I have. Woo hoo!
Here are the most recent stats:

10 days may still be too early to come to any conclusions. It seems about right that the site with the most toolbar promotion has be most backlinks. It is interesting to me, though, that number of pages from each site indexed in Google is about the same.
Did you notice which site got the first affiliate earnings? It was the site with the least toolbar promotion. I’m started to suspect that you don’t need to blast the directories with the toolbar. It seems that simply submitting it to the one directory repository is sufficient to get the indexing ball rolling.
I’ll post another update sometime next week.

Well done on the commission, at such an early stage!
As you say, it is early days yet, but things are looking good in terms of the number of backlinks that you have achieved. I was wondering, are the backlinks bringing visitors? Have you had more visitors to the site with the most backlinks?
I look forward to the next instalment.
Denise
Denise,
No, the backlinks are not bringing visitors. That actually isn’t the purpose of the backlinks. Rather, they are to show Google and other search engines that my site is an expert on whatever keywords I’ve targeted by having relevant backlinks that match my site’s content. This will help my site rank higher in search engine results, which, ulitmately, will bring in more visitors.
I hadn’t thought to look at the number of visitors. That’s a good stat to measure. Here are the current visitors:
Site One (minimal promotion) = 15 unique visitors
Site Two (moderate promotion) = 0 unique visitors
Site Three (maximum promotion) = 8 unique visitors

Hi Rochelle-
I was wondering if you might be able to tell us how many pages each of the sites has? I am curious as to the percentage of pages that are indexed in Google. For instance, if the site has 15 pages indexed, and there are only 15 pages, then this is obviously very good. If there are 150 pages, then Google has a lot more indexing to do!
Thanks,
Gene
Hi Rochelle,
Thanks for the update.
A beginner question for you:
How do I find out a sites number of backlinks and indexed pages?
Jamie
Hi Rochelle,
I’ve been watching this thread with great interest. I made a toolbar and plan to submit it, so your stats are real helpful to me.
It’s actually a good thing not to get blasted with a lot of backlinks all at one time. That can look suspicious to Google. Slow and steady is usually the best way to go.
Kay
Jamie,
First I see how many pages my site has indexed. I do this by going to Google and entering my site’s URL as such: site:mysiteURL.com. Whatever the results are is approximately how many pages Google has indexed for my site.
Next I enter my site’s URL just by itself: mysiteURL.com. I look at the results and subtract my indexed pages results, as determined above, to see how many backlinks there are.
Supposedly you can find out backlinks by entering links:mysiteURL.com, but I’ve never gotten that to work so I do the above steps.
There is probably a better method but I don’t yet know one. There are software programs that will calculate this for you but I haven’t liked any that I’ve tried.
Rochelle
Kay,
I completely agree about not blasting search engines with a large number of backlinks in a short period of time. I knew that going into this test and am as curious as anyone else about how having done this will effect my site.
Interestingly, I’m coming to the conclusion that it isn’t necessary. So far it seems that doing minimal promotion (for the toolbar, not the niche store) is the better, and easier, way to go.

Hi Rochelle,
Any update on 30 Minute Backlinks? I’m just curious to see if it’s worth the investment.
Kev
I have been using the 30 minute backlinks method for several months and have been nothing but pleased with the results of my link building and things that I learned from Michelle.
I did test out the method for awhile before I bought any of the additional software that’s available out there, and it worked just fine. The additional purchases aren’t necessary, but they do make things faster and easier if you want to build a lot of links to multiple sites like I did.
Kev,
Thanks for the nudge
Today I added a post, at http://www.nichestorestrategie.....inks-test/, that tells of my conclusion of this test.
