eBook – How to Improve Your Best Peforming Niche Store

How to Improve Your Best Peforming Niche Store,” my first eBook, is now done.  As promised, this eBook is free, but I have changed how to deliver it.  Initially, I said I was going to email it to the subscribers of this blog.  But, as I was getting ready to start emailing the eBook it occurred to me that some people may not receive it due to email restrictions, size limitations, filters, and so on.

So, in the interest of making sure everyone who wants this gets it, I’ve decided the better method is to let you, the interested reader, download it.  Of course, if I’m going to do this then I’m also changing the terms.  By this I mean it is now available for anyone who wants it, not just subscribers.

I think this is better because this eBook is intended to be helpful and there may be people who find this blog after today.  This way any reader of blog can download and read the eBook.

As to the eBook itself, I decided to start with how Michelle MacPhearson has instructed me to improve my best performing niche store.  The contents of this eBook (with one exception that I have noted in the eBook) are the results of what she taught me.

This was the first time I’ve written an eBook.  Please let me know if there was anything I could have done better so I can improve the next one I write.

    Don’t publish ebooks as .exe
Plain PDF would be fine. I deleted the .exe

    Markus,

The ebook needs to include the .exe extension. It is needed because of the software I use to create the ebook. I’m surprised you are able to access the ebook if you removed the extension. I tried it and it didn’t work for me.

  3. Hi Rochelle,

    Thank You for this ebook.

I’ll read it as soon as I get chance.

    Hi Rochelle

I’m having problems – “the program cannot display the web page” shows up for chapter 1, and chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 show up blank. Chapter 6 shows up okay. Then there’s chapter 9 (which also shows up okay) but there’s nothing between 6 and 9.

Aw, nuts! I checked this ebook before releasing it but I DIDN’T check the sidebar links!!! I’m working on fixing this but if you use the ‘back’ and ‘next’ arrows, found at the top, you will be able to see each page until I fix (or remove) the sidebar links.

I’m so sorry that I didn’t catch this on my end.

    Hi Rochelle,

Thanks for your effort in putting forth an e-book for other BANS users. Unfortunately, I cannot read any pages except for the home page and was wondering if you could convert it to a PDF file aswell?

    Thanks,
    Alan

    Hi Rochelle,

Thanks for the ebook – another generous gesture.

Problem is, I have a Mac – as do lots of people, these days :-)

Any chance of a PDF version or even a plain text file?

    I’m DYING to read it!

Thanks a lot Rochelle! I will start putting your ideas to work as soon as possible. (At least, before I build anymore BANS sites!)

    R,

Thanks, thanks, many thanks! Can’t wait to read it. I need all the help I can get.

Thank you so much for this ebook, I actually started doing this a month ago on some of my sites, it was just a hunch. I also started hand writing about 3 articles for each of my best stores and some for my failing stores and I’ve seen an increase in traffic and some sales in the stores I felt would fail (one is a dot info). I also decreased some store pages on some to make them more niche targeted and this has helped also. Thanks again for sharing what’s going on in your head.

  12. Alice says:

Thanks for another freebie! Unfortunately I can’t open any of the pages, all I can see is the home page… I get a cannot display page error on all the pages. :-(

  13. Hi Rochelle,

I like your site … thank you. Unfortunately, you can add me to the list of Mac users who are unable to give your ebook a read. I agree with the others, a .pdf version might be nice.

    Thanks,
    Todd

I really don’t like exe ebooks. My system just doesn’t allow me to view them. Plus a lot of people are very nervous of exe files. I usually delete them myself but because it was from you and I did scan it I didn’t delete it.

It would have been better to create a pdf file instead that way I would be writing how much I liked it instead of telling you I could not read it.

Well, I finally fired up Parallels and had no trouble with the .exe file, after all.

    It’s a good read.

    Thanks, Rochelle.

    Great book and ideas.
Add me to the list to convert to pdf.
    Thank you

  17. Bunny says:

I’d love to read it – but I vote for a pdf as well – another Mac user here!

  18. This is an outstanding eBook detailing how to improve our BANS results/sales/profits.

I had no problem reading the .exe file, but agree with several above readers that PDF format would be better.

Could you write the eBook using the OpenOffice.org software and export it as a PDF? That way, all computer users would be able to read and enjoy the eBook, not just windows users.

I have a MAC and we cannot open .exe files – PLEASE convert this to a simple .pdf file – I would LOVE to read it! Thanks

  20. Rochelle says:

    @Everyone:

I have removed the .exe file and replaced it with a .pdf file. You can download it from the exact same link above. Please let me know if this works better.

  21. Angela says:

    Hi Rochelle,

One of the things you list is #2 Check your title tag.

I admit mine was blank. Ok, so I put a keyword there and it appears on top of my logo. Doesn’t look very professional. Is there a way to have it go to the background? or at least change the color so it looks as though I wanted it there. Anybody else have this problem? Probably just me. I am a newbie.

    Angela

  22. Alice says:

    Angela,

We’ve all had that problem once we started to “decorate” our stores. There are a couple of ways to handle it. With mono-colored backgrounds you just make the font color the same as the background. (duh!) The other way is when you have multi-colors in the logo and can’t get the title font to match. This was suggested – I think in the BANS forum – and I use it a lot cuz its so easy.

For both you need to go into your Template => Style Sheet and find the code that looks like this:

    / * Logo Site Name Start * /

Look for the margin-left line (or add one in if you don’t have one) and make the number -2000. That will move it off your logo. Be sure to follow the existing formatting or it won’t work. The sample below has spaces added so it will appear on this post – it won’t show up if I left it as correct code.

    margin -left: -2000 px ;

OR you can just change the color of the text to match the background:

    color: #XXXXXX;

  23. Rochelle says:

    Angela,

In addition to what Alice suggested, you can also alter your image so that there is blank space under it (or anywhere in the image that you want to see the link from the ‘Site Name’) to allow room for the site name link to show. This is what I’ve done, though the other options can also allow you to add this link.

Be aware, though, if you use the other options that Google may not like this. I can’t remember where I read it (it was somewhere on the BANS forum) but my understanding is that Google might see this as your trying to be somehow sneaky and they may punish you with lower search engine rankings.

If someone knows more about this please share.

  24. All ebooks should be in PDF, changing the format is a bad idea, Everyone has macromedia and ebooks should stay in this form.
