Feeling a Bit Lost…

This post is completely off-topic for this site, and is actually a continuation of a conversation between Yael and myself on the Halloween Super Affiliate forum.  It was the wrong place to discuss “Lost” so I am moving the conversation here.

If you are also a “Lost” fan, feel free to join in.  Otherwise, just ignore this post.

Yael,

To continue where we left off…

The main mystery that I want resolved regards Walt.  Why was he so special?  What was the big deal about him?  Why did the Others kidnap him and what did they do to him?

Seems to me I read somewhere that he was initially being set up for the role that was eventually given to Desmond.  Once he had his huge growth spurt (poor kid!), they realized he wouldn’t work in that role, so they basically abandoned him and created Desmond’s character to take over.

That sort of makes sense, I guess.  As I rewatch the series, I will need to focus on when Desmond’s character was brought in (although I do believe he was brought in fairly early, so the writers probably always intended him to be a part of the story because of Penny and the hatch).  Who knows…

  1. Am I going to need to unsubscribe for a few days?

I have been on LOST CRACK for the past 2 weeks, and I downloaded all 6 seasons.. I am up to season 5, episode 7 as of last night, and I dont want to ruin anything before I finish! LOL

Des was brought in… during season 2. :-)

OK… I have to unsubscribe for a week or so Rochelle! Sorry! I dont want any season 6 details! LOL

Lol! Mark, just don’t subsribe to the comments here and you should be fine.

I make no promises, though, that secrets won’t be revealed, so STAY AWAY from this post!!

Good to hear that there’s another Lostie on my blog. Welcome to the insanity! Please feel free to join in after you finish the series.

My birthday present will be the complete series on blu-ray, which should look amazing. Plus, there will be about 15 minutes of extra stuff, the nature of which I can’t go into for fear of ruining the end of the show.

BTW, Not all the mysteries will be explained, so don’t set yourself up for having every question you have answered. Just go with it and enjoy the ride.

When I first got into the show, I did so by buying the first season. I got through the entire season in a matter of days. Lost Crack is right!

    Hi Rochelle,

Watching Lost always made me feel a bit on the lost side.

I actually forgot about Walt’s character.

How did you like the ending?

It left me feeling a little on the disappointed side.
Why did I watch this crazy show for the last few years.

I was hoping for something different.

I’m trying not to give the ending away for Mark’s sake.

  4. Rochelle says:

    Randy,

I suspect I am one of the few who was satisfied with the ending. No, it didn’t provide all the answers I wanted, but I’m strangely okay with that, though I don’t know why.

I thought the very end was perfect.

My husband, on the other hand, felt like you did. All during season six he kept saying that the writers had no idea what was going on and that they couldn’t possibly wrap it up satisfactorily. He didn’t really get the end, either. I had to explain it to him.

I am now having the enjoyment of going through the series from the beginning. I can’t wait for the extras on the DVDs coming out in August!

    Rochelle,
I had almost forgotten about Walt. Not sure why he was special or why the Others kidnapped him. I vascillated between believing that he was a pawn vs providing some kind of answer to the Others’ problem of being unable to give birth on the Island vs being the new Ben Linus (convert/potential leader) I got sidetracked by the Ben/Kate/Sawyer/Juliette/Jack drama back at New Otherton. I was glad he eventually returned to the Mainland, but then the only other sighting I remember was the encounter near his school with someone (I forgot who-Locke?)

    (Mark-Don’t read this paragraph)
I don’t remember whether we ever got an answer why the Others were unable to have children, when I believe the Dharma folks had been able….wasn’t Charlotte actually born on the Island?? For that matter what about Jacob’s Others….it seemed they had a community there.

Mark, Did you actually watch 4 1/2 seasons in 2 weeks?? Are you Lost yet?? ;-)

Here is what happened. J.J. Abrams was sitting around in his Honolulu 5 star hotel with some of the finest local medicinal herbs that ABC’s money can buy. Passing around the Krusty the Klown hooka were Jeffrey Lieber, Matthew Fox, Josh Holloway and of course Jorge Garcia. Legend has it that it went down like this: JG- “Hey dude, like what about Walt and stuff. He’s like gone but you never told us like why and stuff.” JJA- “Jorge, snap out of it. You can step out of character here. There’s no groupies in the suite. Unless Josh has any more handcuffed to the bed in the master.” JH- “No chief, I don’t, but if I did, I’d make sure you get your cut.” MF-”Anyway, so back to Walt. What happened JJ?” JJA- “Matt, you make it seem like there was some master plan. That’s the beauty of this show. Every week, we hole up here in the Ritz, hit the Krusty Bong and just write this shit down. ‘Lost’ is the very first stream of consciousness series. Here if it makes you guys happy, Walt grew up, graduated from Harvard with an MBA and later went on to take over ABC. He’s in charge of you clowns now as we speak.” JG- “So dude, he’s like definitely bringing the show back, like next season, right?” JH- “no more hits for you Jorge.”

    Re: Rochelle’s husband — LOL!

Hope you guys saw the alternate endings on Jimmy Kimmel Live. They were a hoot!

    Happy 4th!!

    Yael

  9. Rochelle says:

    Yael,

Yes, we saw them! Ned (my husband) was a huge fan of Bob Newhart (I’ve never seen it), so that one made more sense to him than me, but it was still funny. And, although neither of us have seen the original, my favorite was the spoof on “The Soprano’s.” I really hope that these are included in the complete series DVDs, but I suspect they won’t be.

Also, did you see the other Jimmy Kimmel spoofs, such as the one below?

I had never seen Jimmy Kimmel until the alternate endings, but I laughed my head off at the vid you linked to there and then proceeded to watch quite a few others. They were good!!!

  11. Tao says:

I know Walt was never explained, but I think that was part of “the mystery” of the show. They never explained lots of it, including the ending and left it to peoples own interpretations of life/death/the afterlife etc.

I think Walt was “special” and had some kind of “ability” that made Jacob want to have him on his side.

After the first few seasons, you just end up having to go with the flow really.
