BANS forum moderator Mark has his own blog. Many of you have probably already been there but if you haven’t I highly recommend it.
Some time ago Mark made available a mod that lets you see exactly what people are searching for when they use your site’s search box. This mod is quite possibly the best one you can add to your niche store because you finally have a way to see what people are wanting to buy.
In order to get this mod you need to make a donation to Mark. He hasn’t set a minimum amount but if you decide to donate, please do not insult him by donating a ridiculously low amount, such as a penny, just to get the mod. I am using this mod on all my sites and can state without hesitation that it is well worth using.
Go check out Mark’s search mod at http://www.thenichestorebuilder.com/capture-visitor-search-data-in-your-build-a-niche-store.htm.

Rochelle - Thanks for the kind words about the BANS Search MOD. I am actually SHOCKED at some of things people will search for… but it provides an instant view into what they look for on your own site.
Thanks again,
Mark

Hi,
I was wondering if you knew how many people actually use the search box to find more items?
I saw Mark’s original post awhile back but was not sure how others really used it so I never pursued trying to get it.

Hi Randy -
I can try to answer that one myself… to get an idea of how many people use the search function on one of your stores, just go into your cPanel/Webftp Stats/AWStats/ and look at the list of files that were accessed. (On the left menu, click on “Full List” under the navigation header about halfway down the menu)
You should see an entry for /search. The number to the right of it is the number of times in the current month, your search box was used.
I have soe sites that it is the MOST POPULAR page on a site, with more than 1000 views!
