Hi Rochelle ~ Thanks for keeping us updated. I’ve never been a flood victim … but we did lose our house to fire a couple of years ago (almost 3 actually) and what didn’t burn was lost to water damage.

I too had to learn the insurance “ropes” so if you need any pointers please contact me through my blog. I’d be happy to help in any way possible. I am so sorry this has happened and I just remember how exhausted I was sifting through what was left, sick from the environment, depressed (but trying to look “OK” and strong for my kids, and just the mental anguish overall.

I will say, I’m through it now and I believe we are a closer family because of it. I wouldn’t choose to do it over again (of course) but I will say that after the darkness there will be light again some day. Big *huGs* to you and your family! Suzanne

It’s really too early for me to give my thoughts on the insurance company. They did send us funds to get the process started, so that was good. As to how they are with everything else I’ll have to say when this is done (or close to being done).

I know realize that nothing is fast with an insurance company. Unfortunately, it may be even slower in my situation. The adjuster who came out to my house was here within a week of the flood, then he went to other homes in my area. He came back this past Sunday. At that time he told me that his laptop had been stolen out of his hotel room earlier that day. This means that all the work he had done over the past few weeks was gone and he would have to do it all over again. I asked if he had a backup and he didn’t.

As to our home, it is 10 years old, so we would have never done any of the things we are now doing. But, in the end, our house will be better than it was before the flood.

Wow – Looks like you get a whole new house of it all Rochelle!!

Of course, it doesn’t look like it was that old to begin with… but I think making the remodel changes is great!! I know, you hate it that something like this brought those changes on… but what the hell, look for the positives right?!

Q: How has insurance been for you during all of this? I have heard horror stories about insurance companies denying claims etc, just wanted to hear your experience.

Glad you guys are ok, and getting things back to normal. Gosh, new cabinetry, tile, carpet and paint sounds nice, and the remodeling sounds kind of fun. But I’m sure, you would have rather had the option to do it, without all that you had to go through to get it done. Glad to hear from you and thanks for the update!
