How to Change the ‘View more items on eBay’ Wording

You can easily change the ‘View more items on eBay’ wording on the bottom of your site to something else. In fact, I highly recommend that you do this because if you don’t then your site will be easily found by any one who enters that term into a search engine. Don’t believe me? Go try it and see all the niche stores that didn’t change this. This may be a great way to spy on the competition but changing it helps keep your niche hidden.

This link includes your eBay affiliate code, just as all the auction result links do, assuming your entered your PID from Commission Junction in your site’s Admin ‘Setup‘ area.

My instructions to change the ‘View more items on eBay’ wording:

Step One
Open the FrontControl.php for your site (click here if you don’t know how to do this).

Save a copy of the original code (click here for instructions on how to do this).

Search for the phrase, “View more items on eBay.” Change the this to your preferred wording.

Repeat this search and change all additional phrases as needed. Some versions of BANS have more to change than others.

Save changes and view your site to make sure there are no errors.
Step Two
Open the index.php for your site (click here if you don’t know how to do this).

Save a copy of the original code (click here for instructions on how to do this).

Search for the phrase, “View more items on eBay.” Change the this to your preferred wording. Depending on what version of Build A Niche Store software you are using you may have either one phrase to change or a total of four on your site’s index.php.

Repeat this search and change all additional phrases as needed. Some versions of BANS have more to change than others.

Save changes and view site for errors.

    Hey Rochelle,

I love this site and thank you for the great directions but…………….
Can you help me with this?
When you save all of these copies, where do you put them? I have them everywhere and totally disorganized. How do you identify them? Logically by name?, by date?, by size?.
I can’t be alone with this “problem”.
    What is your system?

    Sissy

    Hi Sissy,

I’m glad to hear that my instructions are helpful : )

Are you asking about the copies of original codes that you save to Notepad before making changes? If so, I can tell you what I do which probably varies from what others do.

When I save copies I don’t actually ’save’ them to my computer. There would be far too many files to save if I did this. What I do is open Notepad and paste my code to it. I will open as many new Notepad files as I need but I don’t save any of them so they are all untitled.

I leave each Notepad open until I am positive I no longer need the original code. When I’m sure I no longer need it I close the Notepad file.

If I made a mistake and need to revert to the original code then I go through each open Notepad and figure out which is the one I need. This shouldn’t be too hard as the bulk of the code will be the same as the one I modified.

If this isn’t what you asked about please let me know.

Thatns for the great checklist and the instructions to make changes. I have been trying to change the wording for “View more items on ebay” and I keep getting an error in the /cont/cont.php file line 2. Any ideas?

  5. Michael says:

I thought I would provide more detailed info, in the hopes that someone can identify and help me with the problem. In order to provide more detailed information, I loaded each file seperately to identify which which error message was associated with each. I get the “Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter – headers already sent (output started at /home/forextr3/public_html/classicvehicleauction.com/index.php:1) in /home/forextr3/public_html/classicvehicleauction.com/cont/cont.php on line 2″ message from the changes made to the index.php upon loading the home page; and I get the “Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/forextr3/public_html/classicvehicleauction.com/cont/FrontControl.php:1) in /home/forextr3/public_html/classicvehicleauction.com/item.php on line 383″ whenever I try to click on an item or the “View all” (changed from View more items on ebay). Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreicated. Thanks in advance, Michael

    Michael,

I’m not sure why you are getting these errors. This might be a good one to post either on Mark’s forum or the BANS forum.

If you are able to resolve this please consider posting the solution here as it might help someone else in the future.

I was able to get it to work. I had problems with the permalink feature, which made me think that it had to be something I was doing. I had tried changing the code then uploading the frontcontrol.php and index.php to the server…which didn’t work. I tried editing the code via the servers file manager…which is very similar to the method you proposed and while it didn’t work the first time it worked the second time I did it.

    Hi Rochelle,

I’m working through your checklist and I’m finding it incredibly helpful with the great tips and how to’s your providing.

I have completed the instructions above to change the ‘view more items on ebay’. This has worked successfully on all pages except the Home page.
I have searched the frontcontrol.php and can find no more instances of these words to change.

Could you please offer any other suggestions on how to fix this.

    Thanks and Regards
    Shelley

    Shelley,

It sounds like you haven’t changed the information on the index.php file. Try looking there to see if you still need to change the wording there.
