How to copy the contents of Raw-BANS for a new BANS site

Whenever you want to create a new Build A Niche Store (aka BANS) you can prepare your new site for BANS installation in a matter of minutes, possibly as few as one.

This brilliant idea came from Mark. If you aren’t already following his ‘Build Your Niche Store Empire in 12 Weeks‘ series then I highly recommend you do. The information he shares is invaluable to niche store builders. I am one of the fortunate ones who is participating as a guest blogger but you can follow his steps at home and ask questions as you go.

If you haven’t yet set up your Raw-BANS folder you can read my instructions on how to do this at How to create a Raw-BANS folder in your cPanel.

I use HostGator for my host so the images below are from them. If you use a different host then what you see may vary from my images.

My instructions to copy the contents of Raw-BANS for a new BANS site:

Step One
Purchase a URL for your new BANS site and add it to your hosting account (probably as an addon domain). For these instructions I will pretend I am going to create a new BANS site called ‘New-BANS-Store‘ (creative, eh?)
Step Two

Log in to your hosting site’s cPanel (i.e. your account with HostGator).

Click the ‘File Manager‘ icon or link:

Clicking ‘File Manager’ will open a new window or tab. You will now be in your cPanel’s file management area.
Step Three

Click on the ‘public_html‘ FOLDER icon (not the link). This is only if you aren’t already in your site’s ‘public_html’ folder:

You will now be in the ‘public_html’ folder, which is where all your site’s domains (including add on domains and sub-domains) and public files are located.
Step Four
Click on your ‘Raw-BANS‘ FOLDER icon (not the link). I named mine "01-Raw-BANS" just so it would be the first file and I don’t have to scroll through all my other ones to find it:

Step Five
Click on the LINK (not the folder icon) for the country of the store you want to set up (for this example I will click on the ‘US-Store‘ link):

Image of the 'US-Store' link
This will show all options available for this folder in the right side of cPanel.

Click the ‘Copy this folder‘ link

After you click ‘Copy this folder’ you will automatically be taken the lowest level of your folders. You will need to navigate your way back to ‘public_html’ and it is important you click on exactly what I say to click on or you will paste your folder in the wrong place.
Step Six
Click on the ‘public_html‘ LINK(not the folder icon):

The Raw-BANS folder for the country you chose is now pasted inside the ‘public_html’ folder, as seen here:

Step Seven
Highlight the LINK of the BANS store you want to create (the one you added in step one). For these instructions I will highlight the LINK for my new site that I named ‘New-BANS-Store‘:

Now that the link is highlighted you will copy the link. There are several ways to do this. Perhaps the easiest is to click your browser’s ‘Edit‘ button and click ‘Copy.’ This will copy the name of the highlighted link.

Next you will delete this folder (yes, you read that correctly). Click on the LINK of your new BANS site. I will click the LINK for ‘New-BANS-Store‘. This will show all options available for this folder in the right side of cPanel.

verify that the folder above these options is the name of the folder you intend to delete. In this case it says ‘New-BANS-Store‘ above the options. After you have verified that you are about to delete the correct folder click the ‘Delete this folder and all files under it‘ link:

Your folder will now be deleted.
Step Eight
Click on the LINK (not folder icon) for the Raw-BANS folder you pasted to ‘public_html.’ I will click the LINK for ‘US-Store‘:

On the right side of cPanel you will be able to paste the name of the folder you deleted into the text box. Click the ‘Rename‘ button after you paste the folder name in the box. I renamed my folder ‘New-BANS-Store‘:

.

You have your new BANS site folder back and it now has all the folders and files you need to install BANS onto the site. Wasn’t that much easier than uploaded the folders and files? Think of all the time this will save you. Three cheers to Mark for coming up with this short-cut!

  1. [...] You can read my instructions on how to actually copy a folder at How to copy the contents of Raw-BANS for a new BANS site. [...]

Did something happen on Step 9? It’s blank (actually, it just says: US-Store-Raw-BANS) I get the instructions either way – very clear – just thought you might want to look into that.

Oops! I accidently left that in but didn’t mean to. It doesn’t mean anything. Thanks for pointing that out as I’ve now corrected it.
