How to Write Ads for USFreeads

Eric, who is a guest blogger at Mark’s 12 week BANS series, recently shared his method for how he creates ads for USFreeads. His method was, in my opinion, pretty brilliant so I asked if I could share it here. He kindly agreed. He said he got this idea from the Wealthy Affiliate, which he recommends.

I have taken his idea and written instructions so you can create ads as easily as Eric does.

You will, of course, need an account with USFreeads. And if you need help setting up your ads you can read my instructions at How to use USFreeads to Promote Your Sites.

My instructions on how to write ads for USFreeads:

Step One
Find a keyword rich phrase that has very few competing web sites.

There are many different ways to go about this. The method I’m going to explain is one you have free access to. Where is that? In your hosting account’s statistics.

Log in to your hosting account. I use HostGator so the images you will see here may differ from what you see.

Click on the statistics button or link. I clicked on the ‘Subdomain Stats‘ button:

Image of HostGator's 'Subdomain Stats' button and link
Choose a stats service and click on the link for the store you want to create ads for. I will create an ad for my new Tools For Ghost Hunters store for these instructions. I like Awstats so I chose the URL for this store under Awstats:

You will be taken to the statistics gathered for your store. If you chose statistics by Awstats then click on the ‘Search‘ link in the left sidebar, under ‘Referers‘:

Image of Awstat's 'Search' link
This will bring you to the search phrases people have used to find your site from search engines. You want to look at the results under ‘Search Keyphrases.’ You can use the top 10 or click the ‘Full List‘ link to see all phrases:

My Tools For Ghost Hunters store is very new, just a few weeks old. Because of this I don’t have a lot of results. Hopefully, the older your store is the more results you will have. Still, there are some good terms here that I can use to create an ad for USFreeads.

Before you choose a keyphrase, though, you need to research the competition for it.
Step Two
Open a new browser window or tab and go to Google. You are going to search for phrases that have very little competition. The phrase you search will be in "quotations" so you get results for exactly that phrase. Terms with 1,000 or less results is good. Less than 500 is great. Less than 100 is phenomenal!

Enter one of the phrases from Awstats for your store with quotes in Google. Here are the results for the top 10 keyphrases from Awstats:

  • "evp recorder" = 2,020
  • "ghost hunting tools" = 5,740
  • "ghost hunting kit with evp recorder" = 0
  • "stealthcam digrc-x" = 1
  • "thermal ghost meter" = 0
  • "evp recorders for sale" = 0
  • "site toolsforghosthunters.com toolsforghosthunters.com" = I am skipping this as it was probably me searching for my site and I don’t want to write an ad for this
  • "ghost hunters thermal" = 1,340
  • "k2 meter for sale" = 0
  • "gauss meter cellsensor" = 1

Wow! I’ve got a lot of options to choose from. So, now that I know what phrases have no or almost no competition it’s time to head over to USFreeads and start creating some ads.
Step Three
Open a new browser window or tab and log in to your USFreeads account.

Create a new ad. Since I already explained, step by step, how to do this at How to use USFreeads to Promote Your Sites I’m not going to detail it again here.

Do the following while creating your ad (this is step 4 of the ad creation process:

  • Ad Title = One of the keyphrases you researched in step two. Choose one with the least competition.
  • Price = Enter 0 so no price is specified.
  • Description =
    • Enter your keyphrase again, the one you used in the ‘Ad Title,’ as the first text in your description and make it ‘H1′ (aka Header 1) text.
    • Add any supporting keywords or phrases in your description.
    • Make your description about 100-150 words.
    • Include an image or two (but make sure the images are on your server so you aren’t stealing someone else’s bandwidth). You can make the images clickable links to your store.
    • Add another 50-75 words of text, possibly including a link or two to relevant pages within your store.
    • Add the Title phrase again, at the very bottom, and make it bold.
  • Link = Enter link to the category page containing the item you are advertising.

Note: If you need help with your description go to eBay and look for the item you are writing an ad for. See how eBay sellers describe this item. Do not use a seller’s exact description, as this is plagiarism, but this will help you write your own description.

Also, use variations on a word. In my case, K2 can be spelled as K2, KII, K Two, K-II, and so on. I used these variations to help get search engine traffic.

Lastly, don’t forget to include at least one link to your store. You don’t want too many but you can add some in the description as well as the ‘Link‘ option.

Preview your ad, make any changes until you are satisfied, and then save your ad.
Step Four
Set your ads to automatically renew each month. You can do this by clicking the ‘Auto-renew settings‘ link:

Image of ad I created on USFreeads
You will be taken to your auto-renew settings. To have all ads automatically renew click the ‘Set all ads to auto-renew‘ link:

This is a huge time saver. You can create an ad once and have it run for as long as you have a USFreeads account.
.

That’s it! A simple, yet effective, way to create highly-targeted ads on USFreeads. Many thanks to Eric for sharing this method.

    Great job, Rochelle!

I’d like to add, that while some USFreeAds do VERY VERY well…some will be mediocre at best. My personal best was a USFA that has held the #1 Google position for over a month now, and has gotten 1500 views!!!

And the best part?…I got the phrase from my cPanel “top search phrases”…so I didn’t even have to think of it on my own or use a keyword program to find it!

One thing I do recommend, is to have a decent amount of text in the USFA. I usually shoot for between 200 and 300 words…roughly. This should be enough “content” for Google to grab onto.

    Good Luck!

Very helpful tips. I had tried the free version of USfreeads for some of my niches, but the response was not great. I ultimately found out that the returns are much better if you invest in their featured ads.

Does usfreeads provide direct static links? If so, how do you add a link from within the post?

  14. Rochelle says:

    Steve,

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by static links. If you mean, can you add a link from your ad to your site, then yes, you can.

The way you add a link is by adding the proper HTML coding. I can’t show you the code here because it will actually turn my example into a link. If you go to a search engine you will find plenty of examples. One such site that teaches how to do this is http://domainbean.com/2008/04/.....text-link/ (I just found it now by searching for “how to make anchor text link”).

Of course I have lots of ads running (Over 1000 to be exact) but they never expire. Still building my internet marketing business like alot of people. Always researching and Always learning but having fun with it. I love following Pot Pie Girl’s Blogs and her success. She is my idol. Researching other ways to market but wont give up USfreeads because I am averaging around $700 a month off of my $9.99 investment each month (as a premium member) That is a hell of a ROI on investment
