About Us 2007 is when I began creating niche stores. Many kind and giving people shared their knowledge with me, making it easier to improve my sites. I have gathered much of what I've learned and put it here, on this site, as a way of giving back. It is my hope that this site will help you improve your niche stores and sites, too. ~ Rochelle
Today I created two simple, clean templates. They are primarily white with a subtle splash of colors to give them character. I’ll add more in this style soon.
My sincere apologies. When I created this first group of templates I included the permalink mod code in the header and footer. I later realized this was a bad idea because not everyone (such as yourself) has installed this mod and if the mod isn’t installed you will get the error that you got.
I thought I had deleted all the permalink code from these but I forgot to remove it from the header. Log in to your site’s Admin, click the ‘Templates’ tab and the ‘header.php’ link. Look for the following code and delete it:
< ?=$front->title();?>
Save your changes and your site should be fine. I am removing this from the templates on my site now and there shouldn’t be any further errors.
Again, my apologies for causing your site to have an error.
I love the new templates and hope to use one or two.
I’ve not yet dealt with headers. Are there any resources (preferably free or reasonably cheap) that you know of that would help with the design of headers. It doesn’t have to be anything complex – I think a simple header often works very well.
Whilst on the subject of software – I’ve just come across something called Instant Article Wizzard and knowing how important content is, this looks as though it may be an economic way to create articles quickly – if it works?! Do you know anything about it and how effective it is?
You might browse the BANS forum for some good suggestions. I use Photoshop, which isn’t reasonably cheap) so haven’t had the need to investigate in lesser priced, or free, alternatives. I think the marketplace thread has some offerings of header work.
As to Instant Article Wizard, I actually purchased this about six months ago and have used it exactly once. In all honesty, writing articles is something I need to do so this might be a great tool for that, but I’m so far behind in content for my sites that I can’t give any opinion on it at this time.
Thanks for the advice – I shall do as you suggest.
I have a limited budget, but do like the idea of the Article Wizzard. I am also following your testing of the 30 Minute Back Links software, which is equally appealing. As stated above, I also need to do something about headers. I shall keep looking for suitable products, but if I decide to purchase Article Wizard, I shall give my opinion here, if you think that might be helpful to your readers?
Rochelle: Just used your tip jar for use of a couple of your free templates. Do you take any special orders for building templates for some Bans sites? Could you please get back to me directly at the above e-mail address. Thanks a lot.
I’d love for you to share your opinion of Instant Article Wizard if you get it and use it. Let me know if you’d like to guest blog about it if you do purchase it.
Paint Shop Pro does almost as much as Photoshop for only $99, plus you can often get it at discount, and they offer a 30 day trial too. I’ve had it for years and love it. Tons of free tutorials online for it, too.
I go to http://www.sxc.hu, download free photos, and use portions of them for most of my headers. An example is http://spurs.horsesofcourse.net. They turn out really good. Sometimes I pay $1 for a stock photo if I can’t find just what I’m looking for.
Most of the article writers aren’t very good. One way to get good articles is to use the ones from article directories – you can get away with using a couple on your site as is – just be sure to leave the links. (I’m an SEO specialist and do this on my own BANS sites.) Another easy way is to read an article about your topic, then write it in your own words.
Thank you for your suggestions – I shall certainly have a look at Paint Shop Pro and the free photos site looks like a fantastic resource. You’ve made a wonderful job of the header on your horses website. I also recently discovered Gimp, but have not yet had time to check it out.
With regards your suggestion about the articles; does this not raise the issue of duplicate content, if I use an article “as is”?
Duplicate content in the form of article syndication is okay with Google. That’s why it’s important to leave the links there, to show it’s a syndicated article. You still want to have original articles in addition, though, so you have original content. The combination seems to work well – you can bulk up your articles but not be penalized.
When you do write original articles, add them to Zimbio as syndicated content (credit your web site) – you’ll be amazed at how well they rank and how it will help your site.
Thank you for the advice. Everything I’ve read so far (bearing in mind that I am very new to all of this) seemed to be saying never copy these ariticles, re-write them before using them. I shall now look for a couple of good articles, as you suggest, and add some original content of my own. I also want to submit my own articles to directories – my problem is finding the time for all of this! There is still so much to learn and I need to do things faster!!!
I think I have misunderstood the situation with regards articles? I have just looked at Ezine Articles and it is clear that these articles are not to be edited without consent.
Denise – right, you should edit the articles. When you use them, use them as-is including the links at the bottom. This is only fair and it also indicates to Google that you are syndicating the content, so you don’t get filtered for duplicate conten.
What I meant regarding writing articles is to read a couple of articles on the topic, then write one in your own words. I also take PLR (public label rights) articles and change them by substituting synonyms etc. That’s a quick way to make an article different, and the right way to use PLR articles (rather than publishing them unchanged). Hope this makes sense!
I d/l Purple01 and I’m getting the following error message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method FRONTCONTROL::title() in /home/bfine/public_html/dollstyle/themes/Purple01/header.php on line 41
Could you provide any advice?
Thank you
Thanks Rochelle! These are lovely. Are they v. 3.0 templates?

Alice,
Thank you. I’m liking the look of these mostly white templates a lot.
They are stripped down (color-wise),slightly modified versions of the layout-2-both templates that came in v2 and v3.
If you have a color request let me know and I can add it.

I just sent you an email regarding your question on custom templates.

Sorry – the comma messed up the link – it’s http://www.sxc.hu
