While driving tonight I had a thought about why you might be getting 404 errors in your AWstats. If you have changed the location of links then you will get this. Meaning, if you had a page indexed in search engines located at http://www.myurl.com/tigers and decided to move it to http://www.myurl.com/zooanimals/tigers, then people who click on the original link (the one before you changed it that is indexed) will see 404 errors.

If you have made any changes like this, or renamed URL names, then you will want to do 301 redirects for them.

Sorry, I don’t know why you would be getting 404 errors showing up in your AWstats if seems seem ok on your sites. If your traffic and sales seem ok I wouldn’t worry about it. If, however, you think your site might be affected by this you might want to search the BANS forum to see if someone else has already posted about this. If not, you can add your own post to see what other have to say.

Thank you very much for warning us about this Rochelle. I have noticed in my Awstats that there have been tons of 404 errors on my pages. However, I have never gone into one of my stores and had it return a 404 error.

Do you know why AWstats would show these?
