Mods that will require redoing after updating to v3 of BANS

Version 3 of Build A Niche Store (aka BANS) has been released and a collective cheer can be heard ’round the world. But before you update any of your v2 to v3 read this.

First, before you update any site I strongly suggest you backup your site from cPanel and backup your site’s database before doing anything.

Second, if you made modifications to the FrontControl.php or index.php (the one in the main folder, NOT in the ‘Admin’ folder) files on your v2 sites then you will need to go back and re-add the modifications. Updating to v3 will overwrite whatever you did.

There are many modifications on this site. The ones that I currently have listed that will be affected by upgrading to v3 are:

-How to Add Mark’s Sitemap to Your Site (see note below regarding this mod)
-How to Add Permalinks (or Link-Backs or Trackbacks) to your Site
-How to Change the ‘Home’ Link Wording
-How to Change the ‘Powered By Build A Niche Store’ wording
-How to Change the ‘View more items on eBay’ Wording
  
 Note: How to Add Mark’s Sitemap to Your Site more than simply redoing the mod is . If you added this mod to your v2 store and then updated the store to v3 you need to follow the instructions at How to Redirect Your Old Sitemap to Your New Sitemap.

If you did any of the above mods, or did any other mod not on this site that included changes to the FrontControl.php or index.php (the one in the main folder, NOT in the ‘Admin’ folder) files then you will need to go back after updating to v3 and redo the parts of each mod that affects the FrontControl.php or index.php files.

Some of these mods will cause errors if you don’t correct them, though not all. So if you update to v3 and suddenly get an error, this may be the cause.

    Rochelle -

    Even though the new version includes a sitemap – there is a change that also needs to occur to avoid loss of any ranking or 404 errors from the old sitemap (Public Sitemap MOD)

    I recorded a video last night, just havent had a chance to upload it yet. It will be live on my site later today though.

    I’m so glad you told me to back up databases, that saved me from diasater. I will now ALWAYS do this.

    Michelle – I’m so glad you were saved from disaster! It’s such a simple and quick thing to do. I sometimes forget to follow my own advice and I know it will come back to haunt me one of these days…
