Thanks to the kindness of Otis, I was alerted to the fact that my site was stuck on my most recent post. When the Home page was clicked, visitors were sent to a post page instead of the Home page.
This is the second time this happened to me today, as this also occurred on one of my other sites, so I knew what to do. But I figured I’d share here, as this might happen to any of you, too.
Among my many plugins is WP-Cache. I had to go into the settings for this plugin and delete the cache. This corrected the problem. I admit upfront that I am clueless about the cache and what it does, I just know that when it is too full, funny things can happen to a site.
I suspect that one of my plugins may be overloading the cache. Unfortunately, I don’t know which one might be causing me grief. So, I might have to do the ol’ deactivate everything, then start them back up, one at a time, till I find the culprit. Like I have time for that crap!
On a completely unrelated note, I was in freakout mode tonight. My daughter came down with what we thought was pneumonia. Tonight, at 7 pm, she spiked a fever of 105 degrees. Panic set in. I hate fevers! High fevers completely unhinge me as a mom.
I rushed her to our ER, where my car proceeded to die just as I was pulling in to the ER parking lot. That was the last straw for me, and I completely fell apart, not knowing how to get my car parked so I could get my six-year-old daughter inside the ER. I saw some people in the parking lot and yelled for help. I explained (as well I could in my unstability) about my daughter and my car. Two men a father and his grown son, came running over to me, told me to get my daughter inside, while they took care of my car. (Looking back, I’m ever so glad that my car died in the parking lot, and not on the way to the hospital…)
Bless those two men. Turns out they were at the ER because the father’s wife just had a stroke. I sincerely hope I didn’t inconvenience them. They were so kind, and didn’t think of themselves at all. It made me grateful for the kindness of strangers.
The worst part of this situation is that my husband and older daughter had left earlier in the evening for a weekend vacation at Disney World. My husband wasn’t able to help me with this at all.
Fortunately, I have wonderful friends. I called my two closest friends here, and they both rushed to the hospital. One brought me food (I hadn’t eaten anything but cake all day – I was dealing with my sick daughter all morning and didn’t stop to eat until around 11:30 am, and when I did I had some leftover birthday cake from the day before – not a great choice I admit – then just focused on my daughter the rest of the day, not on me, and completely forgot to eat) and stayed for an hour or so.
The other stayed with me the entire time, then took us to Walgreens to get the meds my daughter needs, then drove us home.
One thing I have a terrible time with is asking for help. The flood made me realize I can’t do everything on my own. Tonight, I learned the value of friends in a way I never before imagined.
I am writing about this for a few reasons. One, it was an awful experience and I just want to write about it to get it out of my system. At one point in the hospital, my daughter looked at me and asked if she was going to die. That completely broke my heart! If you knew her, you would know she’s one tough kid. She’s been sick her entire life, and most people don’t know she’s sick because she doesn’t act it. I can only imagine how awful she must have felt tonight to wonder if she was going to die.
The other reason is because I am grateful for my friends and family. I don’t want to take them for granted, and hope that I don’t. I hope that by sharing this event tonight that you may recognize and acknowledge the wonderful people who surround you. Too often, we just assume those we love know this fact and don’t say it. I made sure this wasn’t so tonight.
Regarding my daughter, turns out she has influenza A, not pneumonia. Apparently, influenza A is the worst strain of the flu. There’s not much we can do for her except keep her comfortable until it passes. May none of you parents ever have to deal with a fever of 105, but if you do, go straight to the ER. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one, but that is my medical advice for the day, which came from another of my closest friends who IS a doctor, and that was his advice to me tonight when I called him in a panic.
May you all be well.

Rochelle –
Whew… I saw your post title and had to come a reading! I’m glad to hear you recognized the need to run her to the hospital, and that its something at least manageable!
Kim and I can definitely relate to this…
Friends are one of the most valuable resources a person has, on both the giving and needing side of it! I can count on one hand, how many of my friends I absolutely KNOW I can count on in a bind, and the same goes the other if they ever needed ANYTHING, they know they could count on me!!
So… what happened to the car? Is it terminal, or just something that can easily be fixed?
Mark,
Re: My car, I don’t exactly know yet, but I have a good idea. Last week my car stopped engaging in any gear but 1st, so I immediately took it to the dealership. They said a fuse had gone out and replaced it.
Last night, the two men who pushed my car into a parking spot said they popped the hood and found that the transmission fluid was completely dry. So, why was it dry? I don’t know. It is entirely possible that I burned my car’s motor by driving it last night. On the bright side, I am still grateful to have actually made it to the hospital.

Rochelle- Sorry to hear about your daughter, I hope evrything is ok soon. It is hard to see a kid struggle with sickness makes you feel helpless, and doctors seem to almost be as if were nothing most of the time. With all that was going on I would be freaking out too,(I hate Car Problems) too many weights to carry sometimes…Good Luck
Hi Rochelle,
Thank God for those angels in the parking lot and that your daughter received prompt medical attention and is recovering. You’re a strong mom.
Many Blessings to you and your family.
Hey Rochelle – In my 25 things about me post, I never did mention that I have built cars from the ground up, and broken, upgraded, or fixed almost every part on a car you can think of!
If the trans was dry… your engine will be fine since they are two separate functions. You may have burned a few bands inside the trans, but only time will tell.
Fill it up with trans fluid and see if it drives. If yes, put a piece of cardboard under your car at night, so you can pinpoint exactly if and where its leaking from.
Mark
Thanks for all the kind words. As of right now (Sunday afternoon), I finally think my daughter has turned the corner for the better. She’s playing the Wii and singing to herself. It’s a far cry from even just this morning.
@Mark – Would you suggest I try adding fluid and driving it, or having it towed to the dealership to see if there was damage, as I suspect this may be due to something they did (or didn’t do) the week prior when it was there?

Hi Rochelle.
I’m glad to hear your daughter is on the mend. I’ve been there, and it’s no fun at all. Watching your child be seriously ill is one of the really hard things we parents have to go through.
My car died not too long ago, so I commiserate with you on that. It sounds as though yours might be fixable – I wasn’t so lucky and am on the prowl for a used vehicle. There are far fewer of those around these days as a result of the cash fo clunkers program.
Hang in there, and DO remember to take care of yourself!
