Update on Daughter and Car

Wow!  What a difference a week makes.

When last I wrote, my daughter was horribly sick with Influenza A, and my car was broken.  I am happy to report that my daughter is doing much better.  We still need to be careful with her, as pneumonia is a possibility, but she is doing great.

As to my car, well, that’s another story.  Turns out that the transmission fluid was not dry, but the transmission was dead.  It was going to cost us several thousand dollars to repair it.  My husband walked around sniping at each other for an entire day simply because we were stressed at the thought of this.

We looked at our options:

  • Sell my car and be a one-car family (which I really didn’t like the thought of!)
  • Fix my car, but worry about what other repairs may be needed in the near future (my car is out of warranty)
  • Buy a new car

After much consideration and research, we decided to buy a new car.  I was able to trade in my Ford Freestar, which I’m quite happy about, since it needs a new transmission.  I applied the Freestar’s trade in value towards my new Kia Sedona, which I am loving.

The warranty on this vehicle is what really sold me.  I’m covered bumper to bumper for 5 years or 60,000 miles.  Once that ends I’m still covered under their powertrain warranty, which is 10 years or 100,000 miles (and it does cover the transmission!).  I told my girls that we will have this car until they graduate from high school.  Fortunately, they were excited by this thought.

It’s a pretty basic vehicle, as this was not the time in my life to by a fully loaded car, but I have to admit that Kia adds really nice features to their basic models.  One of my favorite touches is the sunglasses holder that is in the roof, just above the driver’s seat.

My Freestar was completely paid off, so I’m not thrilled about having a car payment again.  But, it is pretty good incentive to earning more money through my sites : ).  Plus, the peace of mind I now have makes it worth the monthly payment.

Sounds like a big relief and at least now you and your hubby won’t be too stressed out otherwise:)

Happy to hear about your Daughter being well… but sorry to hear about the car payment Rochelle – On the plus side, everything I have read and heard about the Kia is good!

We have several friends and family that own them! I think they all went on a buying spree around here when they had the buy 1 get one free thing last year!

    Mark,

The ‘buy one get one free’ is new to me, but sounds like a great deal!

Since getting the Kia, I have heard only positive things about the vehicle. When I did research the only negative comment I could find was someone complaining about the blue color. If that’s the worst people can come up with to complain about then I think I’m going to be just fine!
