Where to Legally Find Images

Where to find free images for commercial useAh, pictures.  They add so much to a post.  The trouble is, how do you find images that you can legally download and use for your sites?

Not to worry!  There are several sites you can go to for finding pictures that are safe for you to use on your sites, whether for personal or commercial use.

The video below that I created explains how to find images that are safe to use, and I show you the three sites I use for finding graphics and pictures.  These are pictures that you can download without fear of retribution.  In other words, they are legally available for you to take and do what you want with (with a few exceptions, and I show you what to look for in the video).

The three sites I use to find pictures and graphics are:

Why do you remember them as Sexy-Hue? LOL, I had to ask!!

Great video and tips for images. I still like to pay for them through iStockphoto for logo’s and branding images, but use the free sources as much as I can also!

  2. Hello Rochelle,

Great video – What did you use to record it on please? As a fellow Spartan I have just started to try out a few video options myself but I like the look and feel of your video above.

    Regards

    Mark,

Hee, hee! I see you actually watched my video ;)

I kept getting the letters mixed up when I wanted to open the link to that particular site, and realized I needed to find a way of remembering it. I realized that the words of their URL sound like Sexy Hugh when spoken, and now I can remember. Works for me!

    Steve,

I’m glad you like the look of this video. I have a Mac, so am limited with my options. Camtasia is pretty much a standard when it comes to recording video, but is really expensive, and their Mac version is much more limited than their PC version. I was able to find a program called Sequence, which is specific to Macs, for dirt cheap, and that’s what I used.

If you look close at this video, you can see that I forgot to hide the control panel (it’s in the lower right corner). It’s a great program, and super easy to use. I then opened up iMovie, which is also a Mac program, and added the opening and closing text.

If you don’t have a Mac, then you can use Camtasia (which is pricey) or CamStudio (I think it’s called), which is a free recording program, but not nearly as robust as Camtasia.

    Hi,

I also have 200+ website images for business, commercial and charity use here: http://www.andrewemmett.co.uk/freestockimages/ Though many require editing.

    All the best

Oops! I don’t know why I only mentioned website images. There are two versions of each image on my website. One optimised for websites (i.e. chunk into a blog post, web page etc) and the other the original chunky image, which is easier to edit for use elsewhere.

    Best Regards

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you so much for sharing!

I’m not sure why, but I am unable to access your site, so I’m not able to see the images you have available. I’ll keep trying.

    Sincerely,
    Rochelle

    Hi Rochelle,

Awww, that is a shame. :( The image gallery I’ve used to share the images uses a flat file structure (no mysql), but it does seem to take a few seconds for it getting going today.

Hope you have a grand weekend.

    All the best

Great information Rochelle. Thanks for sharing this. Do you feel Sequence for the Mac is just as good as Camtasia for the PC?

  9. Rochelle says:

    Hi Len!

My experience with Camtasia was rather limited, since I only used it for a short time before my PC died, and that was three years ago. So, I honestly don’t remember too much about it. And I’m sure it has probably advanced since I last used it.

But from what I remember, I think Sequence is a bit easier, but probably pretty comparable.

    Hey Rochelle,
Thanks for the great tips on the photo finds. I have used the sxc.hu site for a very long time, but I could never remember what the exact address was and took forever to find it….now you have given me a great way to remember it :)
    Thanks so much!

    Hi Rae,

I’m so glad my mental tip is helpful to you. Like you, I could never remember the exact URL either till I finally started calling it by this nickname ;)
